Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce Awards 2012
Suppliers once again to the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, Tourism & Industry Awards 2012 at Cowes Yacht Haven.
This year we supplied the full package sound, lighting, video and pyro package in house, including a small ground support system (just to hang all those mirror balls from!).
Visit Isle of Wight launch
The launch of Visit Isle of Wight, the new DMO for the Island, took place at Osborne House. We supplied staging, video equipment (including a 16ft x 12ft projection screen) and stage furniture for the launch.
Change of Address....
Well, we waved a farewell to our unit by the harbour in Bembridge after three years there today, and shut the door for the last time. With the investment in more rigging and truss earlier this year, we realised over the summer that we'd well and truly outgrown the unit.
With perfect timing the opportunity arose over the summer to move back near to where we originally started out, back on The Duver, in St Helens, on the other side of the harbour. Our new unit provides us with an additional 500 sq. feet of storage space, in addition to as much outside storage space as we need in the summer, and with much-needed access to materials handling equipment. Some of our customers have already visited the new site when returning equipment (thanks for helping us with the move by the way!).
Our new address, from 1st October is:
Spyder UK, Unit 3, Attrills Yard, The Duver, St Helens, Isle of Wight PO33 1YB.
Also new for the 2012 season... meet the 6m x 5m stage!
In addition to a number of other events, our brand new 6m x 5m stage is making a weekly appearance at The Needles Park as part of their Magic in the Skies events throughout August. Each evening culminates with a backdrop of fireworks.
Elsewhere August has just kept getting busier, with equipment at a range of shows including:
- V-Dub Island
- Tom Jones & Steps @ Osbourne House
- Olympic Torch Relay
- Dance on the Duver
- Weymouth (Olympic Sailing)
- Cowes Week
- Olly Murrs (rigging & pre-rig for Chelmsford)
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for a fantasic summer season. We're already in talks with so many clients for shows next year, we almost can't wait. But please let us have a bit of a rest first!
An audience with The Queen
25th July saw the Queen visit to the Isle of Wight on the final day of her Jubilee tour. We were contracted by the Isle of Wight Council to provide a small stage for a childrens choir who performed for the Queen, a 100v emergency evactuation system over 500m of seafront, and a number of banner structures hosting banners including one 50' banner located on the roof of an existing building.
First outing for our brand new SR1008
Just two days after it's arrival with us, our brand new stage roof system was out on it's first show in Southall Park, London. Despite everything the weather threw at us (shows in Hyde Park over the same weekend were called off), we provided a full stage, lighting and sound package for the festival with a full SR1008 system, complete with 5m LED screen wings.
News shipment of truss and ground support arrives
We're pleased to announce that our brand new shipment of truss and ground support kit had arrived with us after months of planning, just in time for it's first outing. The initial batch of truss contains enough components for our new SR1008 system, a 10m x 8m stage which, unlike many of it's rivals, can support a large amount of production equipment, both in the roof or on the variable width wings (up to 5m wide) flanking either side of the stage. These can be used for scrims or LED screens, and can also be used for PA.
In time we'll have some more photos available, and this system is available for use on both the Isle of Wight or the mainland - in fact it's very first use will be at a small festival in London.
IOW Festival - 8th year
Once again looking after PA rigging and RF coordination for the site, 2012 saw our 8th appearance at the IOW Festival. Despite the mud (which made national news for all the wrong reasons) and a very wet load out, the year was a great success. In addition to work down at the main stage end, we had other kit scattered across the site including a litedeck stage in Hipshaker and Motorola radios in use by a number of clients around the site.
Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto Stadium Tour in UK & Europe
May and June saw Coldplay's MX tour hit stadiums in Europe, arriving in the UK in June with shows in Ricoh Arena (Coventry), The Emirates Stadium (London), Stadium of Light (Sunderland) and Etihad Stadium (Manchester).
A busy touring start to the year
The start of 2012 has been a busy one. First came the X Factor Live tour, covering UK and Ireland with Finalists from the X Factor shows in the run up to Christmas, starting rehearsals in February and continuing through until April. This was swiftly followed by 2 weeks with Bombay Bicycle Club performing a number of shows at Academies and University venues, including a show at London's Alexandra Palace.
